Chip Serna
CDCFC
Community Development Manager
Chip has over 20 years of lending and management experience and comes to CU Strategic Planning with a passion to work with credit unions assisting the most vulnerable in their communities. His time in mortgage lending, especially in recent years, made him aware of the challenges many families face in trying to get into affordable homes.
He’s worked extensively with affordable home mortgage programs along with NeighborWorks and MT Board of Housing to spread the message about programs assisting low to moderate income families with getting into affordable homes. Now he looks forward to helping credit unions create products and strategies that help members in ways that traditional bank financing can’t.
Chip has spent most of his life in Montana and graduated from the UM with a degree in business administration and management. After a few years spent in Las Vegas and Utah, he and his wife returned to Missoula after the birth of their son, now a teenager. When not working, he spends most of his time with his family, enjoying kayaking, roasting s’mores, exploring thrift stores and proving it’s possible to love Montana even if you have no interest in hunting or fishing. He’s an avid fan of strategic games such as chess or Risk that keep his problem-solving skills sharp, “based on a true story” movies, and playing tennis or softball when he has a chance.
